Healing and self-study from the Himalayas

In the serene Himalayas, I’m discovering new lessons on self-reflection, healing and trusting the journey. As I unwind from a digital detox, I’ve learned the power of slowing down, unlearning habits and allowing life to unfold naturally. Join me on this journey of self-study, mindful healing, and embracing the flow of life, with insights that may resonate deeply for your own path.

As I sit in the awe-inspiring Himalayas, the vastness of this sacred place has opened my heart in unexpected ways. This environment has invited me to reflect deeply on my own path, and in doing so, I’ve found myself (un)learning habits, re-evaluating choices and gaining clarity through both moments of stillness and challenges.

This year, I decided to begin with a soft approach: a digital detox. It felt necessary to step away from the constant rhythm of posting and sharing on social media, sending newsletters, etc. Instead, I focused inward and turned to journaling, a practice that has been nurturing both my mind and spirit. Through this self-study (svadhyaya), I have allowed myself to breathe and observe without the pressure of producing content or curating stories. It has been a gentle but powerful journey of reconnection.

Trusting the journey: lessons from the Himalayas and wisdom from teachers

But as the days have passed, there has been a quiet yet undeniable nudge to return to sharing. So here I am. The question I have asked myself is: What do I share? What part of my journey might resonate with you, and what might bring value to your life? And then, as if on cue, I hear the reassuring voice of the local Ayurvedic doctor, Dr. Vivek in my mind, reminding me that now is the time to stop planning so much, or at least, begin with doing less of it.

Additionally, I came across a profound insight from a wise yoga teacher, Amit, who shared that setting too many goals can actually create a stiffness of the mind. His words struck a chord. It’s a gentle reminder to let go of the need for plans and instead, embrace the flow.

In this moment, I’m left pondering the beauty of trusting life as it comes. Whether it's sharing here, or on social media, navigating the healing journey of my herniated disc, or simply moving through life, I am beginning to embrace the idea that not everything needs to be mapped out in advance. Even when things don’t go as planned, there’s an order to the unfolding of life—something greater than ourselves guiding the way. In my native Serbian, we have a saying: “If it doesn’t go as planned, it goes according to destiny.”

The power of letting go: returning to the mat with renewed energy

These lessons are not just for me. They’re for all of us who may be feeling caught up in the need for control and certainty. Sometimes, it’s the act of surrendering to the flow of life that brings the most profound clarity. And so, here I am in Rishikesh, cuddling this precious experience. Trusting that the answers I seek will reveal themselves in their own time.

As much as I would love to extend my stay in Rishikesh, there is excitement in returning home to my loved ones and to the teaching yoga mat. I will be bringing new energy and fresh insights into my yoga classes, which I can't wait to share with you. But who knows? Maybe the magic of Rishikesh will call me back sooner than I expect, reminding me of the beauty in trusting life’s natural rhythm.

Final thoughts: embracing the flow in your own journey

Until then, I encourage you to join me in the practice of trusting the flow, whether in your own yoga journey, personal healing, or day-to-day life. By allowing yourself to surrender to the present moment, then eventually the answers may arrive with ease. I'd love to hear how you're navigating your own path right now.
